Run Annapolis Valley

The Running Community of Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada

The running club held its first planning meeting Feb 2nd with 15 people in attendance.  There was some discussion about the club’s name as it has been previously used for an athletics group in the valley.  Dwayne McLeod recommended we become affiliated with the Valley Harvest Marathon Association as a branch.  The VH is established, it has existing funds, well known race, infrastructure, a Board, recognition and gives us a target for potential opportunity to help organize, volunteer and run the Wolfville 8 miler in May.

The issue of liability was discussed and a recommendation to have a web enabled disclaimer on line was put forward.  Mia Lockhart will determine feasibility.

The running club will offer a run time each week for all levels.  Various suggestions included a 1km loop in Kentville; a preset time out and back for all levels so all levels can start and end together – faster runners would go further in terms of mileage.  The club will need to set a weekend run in either New Minas or Wolfville.  There is a proposed night in Kentville for Thursday at 7pm at the recreation centre with Eric Bolland coordinating.

There is also a possibility of doing interval training perhaps at Acadia (Paula James leading?)  Susan, Vince and Mia will look into possibilities of getting access to the track.

Social events – Janet Mooney made the suggestion of having someone like Luke McDonald to come in from Aerobics First on sneaker fitting, massage therapist and other people related to running and supporting runners.

We could also look at teams and charity runs (i.e Run for the Cure in Wolfville)

Programs and schedules have yet to be implemented but the website will be used as one means of communicating.
